Pure Hoodia is actually a lot harder to find than you might think. There are a lot of companies which at first appear to be offering pure hoodia, but upon closer examination have diluted the extract with filler or other appetite suppressants. To add another appetite suppressant to pure hoodia will take away one of its best features, the fact that pure hoodia has no side effects. To add filler to pure hoodia sometimes means that your body does not get enough of it at a time to have a strong impact on appetite. A lot of the time this tainting and diluting is done by the manufacturer who receives pure hoodia but decides to mix it with something else, and other times the farmers who sell it to the supplement manufacturers will start out with pure hoodia but then choose to add Hoodia roots, or leaves or any other number of plant materials to get more product and make higher profits. To ensure you are getting pure hoodia gordonii always check the ingredient page of a retailer of “pure Hoodia”; although some companies are deceptive in their marketing they rarely blatantly lie if you read the fine print, and this will tell you the strength and if the supplement is pure Hoodia.
The hoodia cactus (actually hoodia succulent) has been used by the Sans Bushmen of the Kalahari for centuries. In addition to being an appetite suppressant the Bushmen also believe the hoodia cactus to be a cure for among other things: stomach cramps, hemorrhoids, diabetes and high blood pressure. While this is most likely not the case, in fact it is hard to imagine that centuries ago they could even understand the causes and treatments for diabetes and hypertension, it is hard for anyone who has ever eaten the hoodia cactus or taken a hoodia extract to argue that it does not have an amazing effect on hunger. After ingesting a small amount of the hoodia cactus it is very difficult to picture eating anytime soon, or at least anything sizable. This is of course why the hoodia cactus has gotten the attention of the Western World, because it might be the best treatment for obesity to come along in the past fifty years. Unlike the appetite suppressants that preceded it, hoodia is not a stimulant and does not have any adverse side effects. The hoodia cactus is a great diet aid for those looking to overcome obesity and those who want to lose just a few pounds alike.
Although internet marketers and EBay merchants love to use the tag line "Cheap Hoodia", the estimated price for one ounce of Hoodia Gordonii is about $40. This begs the question "How can there be cheap Hoodia?" The one legitimate way to get cheap Hoodia is to buy large quantities and get a discount for buying so much. More commonly, people get cheap Hoodia by not buying Hoodia at all but some capsule filled with god-knows-what. Other times they are buying a tiny amount of the plant in multiple capsules which makes it seem like they have gotten a lot of cheap hoodia but in reality they have too small an amount to have an effect on them. Any serving which is less than 400mg of pure extract is not enough to efficiently suppress appetite. Though it may be cheap Hoodia in price it is worthless Hoodia for dieting purposes.
